Professional Skills Contests
COMPETITION OF MAINTENANCE AND EMERGENCY REPAIR PIPE MEN
On November, 11th at the premises of the operations base another professional skills contest was held for maintenance pipe men and on November, 18th at the premises of the Northern Water Treatment Plant – a competition for emergency repair pipe men. In both competitions the participants had to show both theoretical knowledge and practical skills: for maintenance people – threading, and emergency people – couplings installation and cutting in. The juries marked an increased theoretical background of competitors; first of all, of representatives of wastewater pumping stations and Northern water supply area, as well as their equal skills, as the winner had to be identified only by the shortest time.
All successful participants were awarded Certificates of Honour, gifts and personal bonuses to the remuneration: 1st place – 20%; 2nd place –15% and 3rd place – 10%.

There’s going to be light and not only
Electricians continued the turn of professional skills contests. Friday, October 24th they showed their knowledge of theory and practical skills at the premises of the industrial facilities. This contest was a special one as the number of prize nominations was increased. For the first time the best electricians were chosen from the electric workshop and the other functions separately. This was done due to the outcomes of the previous contests as the electricians of the electric workshop actually gave the other competitors a chance to be only also-rans, showing a more profound theoretical knowledge and better practical skills.
It’s a pleasure to see that this time practically all the competitors took part in the competition head-to-head both in theoretical and practical parts of the contest.
Finally the list of winners goes as follows:
In the electric workshop category: E.V. Pepin took the first prize, V.V. Tikhonov – the second prize, V.V. Andreev – the third prize.
In the production functions category: V.A. Murin (WWTP) – the first prize, A.N. Mitrofanov (WWTP) – the second prize, M.V. Chernichkin (Water and Wastewater Section in Rezinotechnika Area) – third prize.
In the electricians and cable men category the first prize was awarded to I.V. Gorbunov (Electric workshop).
All the participants were given diplomas and gifts; additionally, the Director’s order approved personal bonuses to the official salaries of the successful participants amounting to 20%, 15%, and 10% for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.
Foundations Have Been Laid
In the period from March 13 to April 24, was held a regular checkup of the knowledge and professional skills of electrical/gas welders. Since such checkup got the status of the contest of professional skills it is no longer a dull and obligatory arrangement. It is a large scale event, as unlike contests in other trades with only 2 or three participants involved, here all the welders have to take part. It is not only about getting a status of the best, it gives an opportunity to get a prize and get a personal bonus to the official rate of pay. And to obtain a bonus one has to show his theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The first prize was awarded to V.V. Morozov, Northern WTP, who was awarded the Certificate of Honour and a bonus at the rate of 20% of his monthly pay, A.G. Murashov, Southern Water Supply Area, won the second prize, the Certificate of Honour, a bonus of 15% in addition to his monthly pay, and the third prize was awarded to A.B. Zadvornov and D.A. Potemkin, Southern Water Supply Area, who received the Certificate of Honour and a bonus of 10% of the monthly pay.
Threading is a delicate task

On November, 10 on the premises of the industrial area there was held the Professional Skills Contest of maintenance fitters. Stanislav Shubin, a representative of the Mechanical Workshop and the single holder of the 6th category seized the initiative at the very beginning at the stage of answering theoretical questions, and managed to keep it up to the end of the contest. Among the other 14 participants five maintenance men received 12 and 13 scores (of maximum 16 scores) in the theoretical task and the parts sizing task. The contest was decided by the practical task of threading. Not only the quality of the thread counted, but the time the participants needed for the task completion as well.
The results showed as follows:
1st prize – S.V. Shubin (Mechanical Workshop), 2nd prize – O.N. Sizov (Booster Pumping Stations Unit), 3rd prized was shared between V.V. Egorov (Wastewater Pumping Stations Unit) and F.P. Murygin (Central Water Treatment Plant).
Andrey G. Lykhov, the Chairman of the Evaluation Commission, summed up the results, and Alexander A. Aniskin, General Director awarded the successful participants with the prizes and signed the Order on personal bonuses to the official salaries for the awardees.
Electricians Contest
On November, 3 within the framework of the Professional Skills Contest there was held an Electricians Contest. The usual procedure included the theoretical and practical stages. The sixteen professionals from five workshops demonstrated their knowledge in electric engineering, safety regulations and labour protection regulations and rules.To show their practical skills the electric engineers designed an electric scheme for a valve control, and the wiremen executed brazing of power cables strands.
The evaluation results demonstrate the following winners:
- electricians:
first prize – Ye.V. Pepin from the Electric Workshop;
second prize – V.V. Andreev from the Electric Workshop;
third place – V.A. Murin and M.V. Pavlinov both from the WWTP;
- wiremen:
first prize – Ye.V. Pepin from the Electric Workshop;
second prize – V.I. Gorbunov from the Electric Workshop;
third prize – I.S. Hapilov from the Electric Workshop.
The winners and awardees received the Letters of Award, trophies and personal bonuses to the official rates of pay amounting up to 20%.
The Best Drivers Have Been Selected

On October, 20 the drivers took part in the Professional Skills Contest, which was held on the premises of the industrial facilities of the utility. Twenty-eight professionals chose to participate in the contest to try their luck and demonstrate their workmanship. The contest comprised two stages: theoretical and practical. The first stage was aimed to check the drivers’ understanding of the traffic rules. In order to determine the winners the evaluation commission even had to consider the time the participants needed for completion of each task.
The results of the evaluation show the following winners:
first prize – S.V. Malakhov from the Southern Water Supply Distribution Area;
second prize was shared between Yu.A. Garnikhin from the Rezinotechnika Water and Wastewater Section and I.V. Pavlychev from the Transport Department;
third prize – A.N. Abakumov from Northern Water Treatment Plant and N.A. Belov from the Transport Department.
Alexander A. Aniskin, General Director, congratulated the winners on their success and awarded to them the Letters of Award and trophies (a watch with the symbols of the utility). Additionally, an administrative order was issued to give personal bonuses to the official rates of pay amounting up to 20% to the first prize winner and the awardees.
September 6, 2006

On September 6, 2006 there was held a Professional Skills Contest of Shovel Runners at the Northern Water Distribution Area site. Fourteen drivers from different structure units, of different age and life experience tried their luck and had a go in the contest.
Here is the list of the winners, who took the first places, were awarded with diplomas and trophies and received up to 20% premiums to their official salaries.
- Light Excavators category:
1st place - I.V. Khlopotinin (Southern Water Distribution Area)
2nd place - A.N. Vysotsky (Northern Water Distribution Area)
3rd place - V.A. Moskvin (Mechanical Workshop)
- Heavy Excavators category:
1st place - A.V. Makarovsky (Dispatch Office)
2nd place - S.V. Levshin (Northern Water Distribution Area)
3rd place - Yu.G. Zhiganov (Southern Water Distribution Area)
The winners and all the other participants were presented with the caps with the utility’s logo. |
